Depart early from bustling Marrakech, heading south through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, climbing the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Berber villages and terraced farms clinging to the mountainsides. Your first major stop is the famous Ait Ben Haddou, a magnificent ksar (fortified village) and UNESCO World Heritage Site where many famous films, such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia, were filmed. After exploring its narrow alleys and ancient mud-brick structures, continue to Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa” for its film studios and historic kasbahs. Next, you visit the Skoura Oasis, a palm-filled paradise dotted with beautiful kasbahs like the impressive Kasbah Amridil. The journey continues through the fragrant Valley of Roses in Kelaat Mgouna, especially vibrant during the rose harvest season in April and May.
